Gang Resistance is Powerful — GRIP — was initiated 2009 in response to the Taos school system’s desire to reduce gang membership.
GRIP operates in elementary and middle schools and serves high school-aged students in the charter schools.
The objective of GRIP is to give students the emotional and social skills needed to avoid gang involvement.
The program teaches anti-bullying and encourages students to seek alternate healthier activities such as sports, art, drama, or special-interest academic work.
In the 2015/2016 school year, GRIP served 384 students.
